HOMEWORK:
Students will have a weekly reading log due each Friday. The expectation is for students to read about 100-120 minutes a week. It is also expected for students to read about 1 book per month and complete an Accelerated Reader Quiz (in school) on each book they read.
CLASS DOJO
This year I will use Class Dojo, an online website and app, that gives positive reinforcement for meeting/exceeding classroom expectations. It is a fun, engaging tool that will help students understand what it means to be a great student. Students will receive points for working hard, helping other and participating. They will lose points for not doing homework, not trying their best or being disrespectful. Our Class Dojo website will allow students to see how many points the have and how they are doing. The goal will be to have so many points (ex. 15 points) by Friday afternoon to earn a homework pass, extra recess, a reward ticket or a small prize. Parents will be able to access their child's account and see how he/she did each day in the classroom. The paperwork will be sent home during the first week of school. I will also use the Class Dojo site to post classroom pictures. You may check out the website at classdojo.com.
SNACK
There will be a snack break each day. Students are allowed to bring a snack. Healthy snacks are encouraged. Water bottles are allowed to be kept on students' desks.
BIRTHDAY CELEABRATIONS
Birthdays are special for all children. As part of Scituate's Wellness Plan, we will not be doing birthday treats. If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday, you may send in a non-food treat. Pencils, stickers, small goodie bags are all acceptable. Often by 4th grade most students no longer send in anything but it is completely a family choice.
Stay in touch!
Parent/teacher communication is key. The quickest and easiest way to touch base with me is through e-mail. I check e-mail before/after school and during the day. If you need to reach me by phone, during lunch/recess or after school is best. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns/questions/thoughts you have!
